Ferozepur players bag 14 medals at Asia Cup Taekwondo Championship featuring 280 athletes from 3 nations
Ferozepur, July 3, 2025: Players from Ferozepur made the district proud at the 8th Asia Cup Open International Taekwondo Championship held in Pokhara City, Nepal, from June 27 to 29. The event was jointly organized by Nepal Young Brother Taekwondo Club and Taekwondo Council of India, with participation from around 280 athletes representing three countries.
Representing India, 20 players from Ferozepur’s Energy Sports & Fitness Academy showcased their talent in the tournament. Fourteen athletes from the academy clinched medals in their respective age and weight categories.
Gold medals were secured by Ishmeet Singh, Karan Mehta, Gomji Daslana, and Jaspreet Yadav. Silver medals were won by Bine Sharma, Jaspreet from Jalalabad, Somdev Sahota, Rachit Rajput, and Parth Kanwar. Bronze medalists included Dinesh Chopra, Tarun Rajput, Udayveer Singh, Rehan Gumber, and Gurnoor Bhullar.
Head Coach of Team India, renowned coach Pankaj Chaurasia, informed that apart from the players’ achievements, nine referees from the academy were also honoured with official awards. The Indian team was specially awarded a Team Trophy for their collective success, winning a total of 4 gold, 5 silver, and 5 bronze medals.
Upon their arrival at Ferozepur Railway Station, the victorious team received a grand welcome with garlands, sweets, and beats of traditional drums by parents, supporters, and District Taekwondo Association President Ashok Sharma.
The team now hopes for special recognition from the local administration in upcoming events.
