Chandigarh, 13 October 2025:
Chaired by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, the Punjab Cabinet will convene at 3 pm today at the Civil Secretariat in Chandigarh, with key decisions expected on compensation for flood-affected families, commemorations for the 350th martyrdom year of Guru Tegh Bahadur, and a proposal to create a new district of Sri Anandpur Sahib.
Called just ahead of Diwali, the meeting could feature public-facing announcements, including:

New district proposal: The government is considering carving out Sri Anandpur Sahib as a separate district, with a decision likely.
-
Guru Tegh Bahadur’s 350th martyrdom year: Proposals include a special Assembly session in Sri Anandpur Sahib and Light and Sound Shows across 23 districts from 1–18 November.
-
Flood relief: With compensation disbursal beginning today in Amritsar, the Cabinet may finalise further modalities for amounts and distribution.
-
Employees’ benefits: Ahead of the festive season, announcements on Dearness Allowance or other benefits for government employees are anticipated.
Any approvals taken today could have a significant impact, especially regarding district reorganisation and employee welfare; clarity will follow the post-meeting briefing.
