Union Minister Baghel meets flood victims, promises direct relief to farmers
Ferozepur, October 13, 2025: Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Panchayati Raj, S.P. Singh Baghel, during his two-day visit to flood-affected areas of Ferozepur, met with villagers and assured them that their concerns would be conveyed directly to the central leadership. He also promised to seek long-term solutions to recurring flood damage.

Accompanied by Dr. Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, BJP National Executive Member and former minister, Baghel visited villages including Bandala, Dheera Ghara, and Muthiayawala, interacting with residents and listening to their grievances. He began his tour with prayers at Gurdwara Dhabasar Sahib for the welfare of flood-hit families.
Villagers including Darshan Singh, Iqbal Singh, Saraj Singh, Baba Balwinder Singh, Nishandeep Singh, Kala Singh, and Kuldeep Singh urged the minister to ensure that compensation is credited directly into farmers’ bank accounts.
They also demanded the construction of a permanent embankment from Harike to Hussainiwala and regular cleaning of riverbeds to prevent annual floods. In addition, they appealed for compensation even for those farmers whose crop assessment (girdawari) had not been conducted.
Receiving memorandums from over two dozen panchayats, Baghel assured that all concerns would be placed before the Prime Minister and central leadership. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi is deeply concerned about the people of Punjab and is monitoring the situation daily. That is why Union Ministers have been asked to visit affected areas and maintain direct contact with the people,” he said.
Baghel informed that on Tuesday, he would review arrangements with district officials and later visit flood-affected villages in Zira, where he would also address the media.
