Chandigarh, November 3, 2025: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of an alleged casteist remark made by Punjab Congress President and Ludhiana MP Amarinder Singh Raja Warring against former Union Home Minister and Dalit leader, the late Buta Singh, during a campaign rally for the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election.
Providing details, Commission Chairman Jasvir Singh Garhi said the matter came to light through social media videos, where Warring is allegedly seen making caste and colour-based remarks about the late leader.
Taking serious note of the issue, the Commission has summoned Raja Warring to appear in person on November 6, 2025, to present his clarification.
The Returning Officer of Tarn Taran has also been directed to appear before the Commission on November 4 and submit a factual report regarding the incident.
Garhi said that any comments—if proven to be caste-based—would amount to a serious violation of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
He added that the Commission remains committed to ensuring dignity and protection of the Scheduled Caste community in public discourse and political activity.
