Tarn Taran (Punjab), November 9, 2025: In a first for any by-election in the country, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has deployed a record 12 companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) to ensure peaceful polling in the Tarn Taran Assembly by-election scheduled for November 11.
Given Tarn Taran’s sensitive border location, the ECI has placed the constituency under the highest level of security.
Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C informed that 12 Companies of Central armed Police Forces (CAPF) have been deployed in the Assembly Constituency, which is one of the largest deployment of CAPF ever by ECI in any bye election.
He said that the deployment plan — finalised in coordination with ECI-appointed observers — covers all 114 polling station locations and 222 polling booths across the constituency.
Each polling station will be under CCTV surveillance with live webcasting, monitored simultaneously by the Returning Officer, District Election Officer, and Chief Electoral Officer under the supervision of the ECI. In addition, 46 micro observers have been assigned to critical polling stations to ensure full transparency.
The CEO confirmed that all Assured Minimum Facilities (AMFs) have been provided at every polling booth and warned that any disturbance of law and order will be dealt with strictly. He urged voters to turn out in large numbers and cast their votes freely and fearlessly.
The by-election will take place on Tuesday, November 11, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., under what officials describe as one of the tightest security arrangements ever made for a by-election in Punjab.
