‘Right Food Is the First Medicine’: Punjab State Food Commission puts spotlight on nutrition at Chandigarh seminar

Chandigarh, November 14, 2025: Highlighting the growing importance of nutrition in preventive healthcare, the Punjab State Food Commission on Thursday organised a seminar on “Food Is Medicine” at MGSIPA, Sector 26. The event centred on the theme “Right food is the first medicine”, urging people to adopt nutritious diets to build a healthier society.
Speaking at the seminar, Dr. Vipan Bhargav from Ludhiana emphasised that the human body has an innate ability to heal and nurture itself—provided it receives the right nutrients. He stressed the need to popularise the concept of Nutrition Huts and Nutrition Points at homes, schools and village panchayats.
“Plant-based natural vegetables and homegrown produce play a vital role in maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” he noted.
Chairman of the IRA Chamber of Ayurveda, S.K. Batish, underscored the global acceptance of Ayurveda, stating that 170 countries recognise it, while 23 nations have integrated it into their health policies. He also strongly advocated the adoption of millet-based diets for long-term wellbeing.
Health and Life Coach Harkanwal P. Singh Dhaliwal outlined the significance of detoxification and maintaining balance in food consumption to prevent lifestyle disorders.
Punjab State Food Commission Chairman Bal Mukand Sharma welcomed the Chief Guest, Dr. S.P. Katyal, Chairman of the Himachal Pradesh Food Commission, who praised Punjab’s efforts in promoting healthy food habits and best practices.
The event witnessed the presence of Commission Members Vijay Dutt, Chetan Prakash Dhaliwal, Jasvir Singh Sekhon, former Member Preety Chawla, Member Secretary Kanu Thind, and IRA Chamber of Ayurveda Vice Chairperson Kanchan Sharma.
