Expansion of Mohali MC limits a win for residents, says Balbir Sidhu

S.A.S. Nagar (Punjab), November 30, 2025 — Senior Congress leader and former Punjab Health Minister Balbir Singh Sidhu has hailed the latest notification expanding the jurisdiction of the Mohali Municipal Corporation as a major victory for the people.
He said the inclusion of new areas under the Corporation will finally provide residents with proper public health facilities and essential civic services.
Speaking to a large gathering at the Phase-1 office, where residents arrived to thank him, Sidhu said the move marks a setback for those who had long obstructed the expansion of municipal limits for personal gain.
He added that even after the Punjab and Haryana High Court directed the state government to act on the expansion, the earlier notification issued in place of the 2021 resolution intentionally excluded key areas such as Badmajra, Balongi and TDI.
Sidhu stated that widespread public discontent pushed the government to issue a revised notification. However, he expressed disappointment that Badmajra still remains outside the Corporation’s limits and confirmed that legal efforts will continue to ensure its inclusion.
He said the newly added areas will now benefit from essential amenities like sewerage, clean drinking water, electricity and other civic services — improvements that will enhance living standards and shield residents from exploitation by private developers.
Balbir Sidhu also acknowledged the role of Mohali Mayor Amarjit Singh Jeeti Sidhu, noting that it was under his leadership that the Municipal Corporation passed resolutions in both 2021 and 2025, compelling the government to take action.
Congratulating residents, Sidhu reaffirmed his commitment to continue advocating for their rights and welfare.
