Operation Prahar: Punjab Police launches Massive 72-Hour crackdown on gangster networks in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, January 22, 2026: In a resolute move to dismantle organised crime and restore public safety, the Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann, has launched a massive state-wide offensive titled 'Operation Prahar'.
Highlighting the government’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and organised crime, Punjab Education Minister S. Harjot Singh Bains has hailed the initiative as the state's largest-ever crackdown on anti-social elements.

In Ferozepur district, the operation is being executed with high intensity under the direct supervision of SSP Bhupinder Singh Sidhu, who is personally touring various areas with senior officials to monitor the campaign. Approximately 180 police personnel, divided into 30 specialised teams, have been deployed to conduct large-scale raids, leading to the arrest of 12 gangster associates and 5 Proclaimed Offenders (POs) within the initial phases of the 72-hour operation. During these operations, the police successfully seized five illegal weapons and other contraband from the suspects.
Addressing the unique challenges of a border district, SSP Sidhu acknowledged that while Ferozepur faces significant threats regarding the smuggling of weapons and drugs from across the border, the force is highly motivated and fully prepared to meet the challenge.
He issued a stern warning to criminals, stating that gangster activities will not be tolerated and those involved must reform immediately or face severe legal consequences.
To strengthen the crackdown and encourage community participation, the district police have established a dedicated helpline at 93946-93946, urging citizens to report any suspicious activity or gangster movements.
SSP reiterated that the Punjab Police is working day and night tirelessly to ensure that all gangsters and drug smugglers are put behind bars, ensuring long-term peace and security for the region.
