Gurdaspur (Punjab), March 1, 2026: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday said that the upcoming Punjab Assembly election is not just about changing a government but about redefining the political direction of the state and restoring respect for its society.
Addressing a programme organised by the Saini Samaj at Dinanagar in Punjab’s Gurdaspur district, Saini described Punjab as the sacred land of the Gurus, sacrifice and martyrdom. He said that despite the trauma of Partition, the people of Punjab transformed adversity into strength through self-belief and resilience.
Calling upon citizens to work collectively, he urged them to once again make Punjab a leading state on the path of development. “Together, we must make Punjab ‘Rangla Punjab’ again,” he said.
Highlighting the role of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Chief Minister said the Saini community had received due recognition under his leadership. He added that by elevating a grassroots worker like him to the post of Chief Minister, the Prime Minister empowered the community.
Saini informed that he would present his second Budget in the Haryana Assembly on Monday. Of the 217 resolutions undertaken by his government, 60 have been fulfilled, while work is progressing on 120 others.
Detailing Haryana government initiatives, he said free dialysis facilities are available for kidney patients in all government hospitals and medical colleges. Pensions are being delivered to senior citizens at their homes by the 10th of every month. Under the Lado Lakshmi Yojana, women are receiving Rs 2,100. Farmers are being paid within 48 hours for crops procured at Minimum Support Price, and the Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana is also benefiting cultivators.
He further stated that housing is being provided to the poor, landless families are being allotted plots, and those residing for long periods on Panchayati land have been granted ownership rights.
‘Development Impacted as Power Remained Concentrated’
The Chief Minister alleged that development in Punjab had suffered because power remained confined to a few hands.
He said the time had come to change the course of politics in the state. Expressing confidence ahead of the Assembly polls, he said the OBC community, which constitutes nearly 31 percent of Punjab’s population, should unite and play a decisive role in forming a Bharatiya Janata Party government.
He added that Punjab is currently facing serious challenges, including unemployment, drug abuse, crime and migration, and stressed that collective efforts are needed to address these issues.
Taking a dig at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Saini said allegations regarding vote theft in Haryana ahead of the Bihar elections were rejected by the people.
Recalling the contribution of the Saini community to the freedom movement, he paid tribute to Sardar Mehnga Singh and Hari Singh Saini.
He also acknowledged the humanitarian service of the community, particularly during floods in Punjab. Referring to Nek Chand Saini, creator of the Rock Garden in Chandigarh, he said the artist had left a lasting mark in the field of art and culture.
During the event, the Chief Minister was honoured with a shawl and memento and felicitated families of martyrs and schoolchildren. Several dignitaries, including Punjab BJP leaders and members of the Saini Samaj, were present on the occasion.
