Patiala (Punjab), April 28, 2026: In a major breakthrough in the Shambhu railway track blast case, Patiala Police has uncovered a terror module allegedly backed by Pakistan’s intelligence agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), with operational links extending to Malaysia.
Addressing a press conference, Kuldeep Singh Chahal, (DIG) of Police, Patiala Range,.revealed that the blast was not accidental but part of a larger, well-planned conspiracy orchestrated by pro-Khalistan elements based abroad.
Police have arrested four accused in the case, identified as Deep Singh Khalsa, the alleged module head, along with Kulwinder Singh, Satnam Singh (brother of deceased Jagroop Singh), and Gurpreet Singh. Deep Singh Khalsa was reportedly previously booked in cases in Mansa.
Police recovered a cache of arms and explosives from the accused, including a .31 bore pistol, an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), detonators, and communication equipment such as walkie-talkie sets, allegedly intended for anti-national activities.
DIG Chahal confirmed that the body found at the blast site was that of Jagroop Singh, who was part of the same module. Investigations revealed that he had travelled to Malaysia in 2019 and was attempting to plant the IED on the railway track when it accidentally detonated, leading to his death on the spot.
According to police, the module was being operated by handlers based in Malaysia under ISI direction. The objective was to carry out multiple blasts across Punjab to spread fear and disrupt development.
Authorities suspect that another individual may have been present with Jagroop Singh at the time of the incident, and efforts are underway to trace him.
DIG Chahal urged Punjab’s youth to remain cautious and not fall prey to inducements from overseas elements. “Those sitting abroad ensure a secure future for their own children but mislead our youth here. Jagroop Singh had two children, and such actions have destroyed an entire family,” he said.
The arrested accused will be produced in court, and police remand will be sought for further interrogation. Officials expect more revelations during the investigation and are hopeful of uncovering additional links in the network.
