Gangster associate gunned down inside car; police launch probe, claims surface on social media

Kapurthala (Punjab), May 1, 2026: In a shocking incident highlighting ongoing gang violence in Punjab, a key witness in the Sukha Kahlwan Murder Case was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kapurthala.
The deceased, Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi, was reportedly a close associate of gangster Sukha Kahlwan and was considered an important witness in his murder case.
According to police sources, the attack took place while Gopi was sitting inside his car. Armed assailants allegedly surrounded the vehicle and opened indiscriminate fire, leaving him no chance to escape. He died on the spot.
Sources indicate that Gopi had refused to retract his statements in court, and there were concerns regarding threats to his life.
Meanwhile, claims have surfaced on social media with some gangsters allegedly taking responsibility for the killing. However, police have not officially confirmed these claims.
Gaurav Toora said that an alert has been issued across the district, and teams are scanning CCTV footage from the area to identify the attackers.
The body has been taken into custody, and further investigation is underway. The incident has triggered panic in the area and raised fresh concerns over law and order amid rising gang rivalries in Punjab.
