11 districts, 7 MCs show strong performance in Census 2027 Phase-I: Manjit Singh Brar

Chandigarh, May 25, 2026: Punjab’s administrative machinery has been placed on a high-alert mode to ensure the smooth and timely execution of Census 2027 Phase-I (Houselisting and Housing Operations), with 11 districts and seven Municipal Corporations (MCs) delivering strong field-level performance, reflecting efficient mobilisation and monitoring across the state.
A high-level virtual review meeting was held by Administrative Secretary, Local Government, Manjit Singh Brar, along with Director, Census Operations, Navjot Khosa, and Director, Local Government, Kulwant Singh, with all Principal Census Officers to assess progress in the final phase of field operations.
Highlighting performance benchmarks, Brar said that 11 districts—Barnala, Moga, Malerkotla, Fazilka, Ludhiana, Sangrur, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Tarn Taran, Rupnagar, Mansa, and Hoshiarpur—along with seven Municipal Corporations—Barnala, Abohar, Moga, Batala, Hoshiarpur, Phagwara, and Kapurthala—have demonstrated commendable field mobilisation and effective monitoring.
He said the progress reflects strong local leadership and coordinated ground execution under tight timelines.
Brar stated that Census operations are of “vital national importance” and instructed lagging districts to immediately accelerate work to achieve 100% commencement.
He informed that the monitoring benchmark for achieving 40% to 70% completion has been set for May 30, 2026, while full completion must be achieved before the second week of June 2026, with the Phase-I window closing on June 13, 2026.
