Moga (Punjab), May 27, 2026: A court in Moga has directed Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal to appear before it on June 10 in connection with a criminal defamation case linked to alleged objectionable remarks against Punjab MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party.
The complaint was filed by AAP MLA Amanpreet Kaur Arora on May 13, alleging that Swati Maliwal had made derogatory comments in a social media post referring to Punjab’s Aam Aadmi Party legislators as “sheep and goats.”
Following the complaint, the MLA’s legal counsel had moved an application seeking the issuance of a pre-summoning notice. After hearing arguments, the court had earlier fixed May 25 as the next date of hearing in the matter.
Subsequently, the case came up again before the Judicial Magistrate First Class court in Moga, where proceedings in the criminal defamation complaint against the Rajya Sabha MP continued. The court has now issued directions for her personal appearance on June 10, advancing the next stage of the hearing.
