Amritsar (Punjab), May 29, 2026: Senior Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Friday alleged large-scale irregularities and intimidation during the Majitha Nagar Council elections, accusing the ruling Aam Aadmi Party of attempting to influence the poll outcome.
Addressing the media, Bikram Singh Majithia claimed that despite completion of vote counting, the election results had not been officially declared till around 2:30 PM.
He further alleged that officials involved in the counting process were receiving direct instructions from the Chief Minister’s Office and accused the state government of using administrative machinery to manipulate the civic poll results.
The SAD leader termed the developments as “open hooliganism” and warned that his party would strongly oppose any alleged interference in the democratic process.
Bikram Singh Majithia also said the party would move the Punjab and Haryana High Court against the alleged irregularities and high-handedness during the municipal elections.
