Ferozepur Admn gears up for monsoon; DC directs depts to ensure flood preparedness
Ferozepur, June 22, 2026: To tackle any possible flood situation during the upcoming monsoon season, Deputy Commissioner Ferozepur, Deep Shikha Sharma, has directed officials of various departments to ensure foolproof arrangements in advance. She stressed the need for close coordination among all departments to effectively deal with any emergency arising due to heavy rainfall or rising water levels in the Sutlej River.
Chairing a meeting regarding flood preparedness, the Deputy Commissioner instructed all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) and officials of the Water Resources Department to conduct advance inspections of vulnerable villages, including Rukne Wala, Gatta Badshah and Kaara Kali Raoun, and assess the ground situation. She directed officials to strengthen embankments, vulnerable points, bridges and approach roads well in advance to prevent any damage during heavy rains and possible increase in the Sutlej water level.
She further directed the concerned departments to inspect the availability and condition of essential flood relief equipment, including sandbags, boats, life jackets, flood lights, search lights and medical supplies. Any equipment requiring repair must be made operational immediately. She also emphasized ensuring proper cleaning of drains and sewerage systems before the monsoon.
“Any negligence in flood preparedness will not be tolerated. All assigned responsibilities must be completed with full dedication and sincerity within the stipulated time,” the Deputy Commissioner said.
Deep Shikha Sharma informed that a district-level Flood Control Room has already been established in view of the possibility of floods during the monsoon season. The control room will remain operational round the clock and citizens can contact it at 01632-244017 in case of any emergency.
She also directed departments including Health, Food and Civil Supplies, Animal Husbandry, Public Works Department (PWD), PSPCL and Agriculture to ensure all necessary arrangements in advance so that any flood-like situation can be handled effectively and promptly.
DC reiterated that officials must remain fully alert and ensure advance preparations with utmost seriousness to minimize the impact of any possible flood situation.
ADC (General) Dr. Amandeep Kaur, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Krishna Pal Rajput, Tehsildar Ferozepur Sukhveer Kaur, officers from BSF and Army, along with officials and employees of various departments, were present during the meeting.
