‘Money Langar’ at Manimajra Temple offers meals and cash aid to devotees

Chandigarh, August 2, 2026: A community service initiative described as a “money langar” at the Shani Dev Temple in Manimajra drew attention after devotees and people in need were provided meals along with cash assistance.
The initiative was organised by Raja D. of the JMD Group, who said the idea was to offer help without prior announcements and allow beneficiaries to receive support as a surprise.
During the programme, devotees and other people present at the temple were served meals from McDonald’s and were also given cash assistance. The unexpected gesture drew emotional reactions from several beneficiaries, according to the organisers.
Raja D. said that meaningful service should reach people without advance publicity and bring immediate relief or happiness to those receiving it.
The initiative is part of a series of community service activities undertaken by the group. According to the organisers, Raja D. has previously arranged meals for people in need at five-star hotels in Amritsar on around 25 occasions.
The group also said that gold coins and cash assistance ranging from ₹500 to ₹1,500 had been distributed to individuals based on their needs.
The Manimajra initiative combined the traditional concept of langar with direct financial assistance. Organisers said the objective was to provide immediate support while ensuring that the assistance was delivered respectfully.
Raja D. also indicated that the group’s next initiative could be a “petrol langar”, under which free petrol would be provided to people.
The date and location of the proposed initiative have not been announced. The organisers said details would be kept undisclosed in advance so that the assistance could reach people as an unexpected gesture of support.
The initiative at the Shani Dev Temple highlighted how traditional ideas of community service are being adapted in new ways, combining food distribution with direct financial assistance to offer immediate relief to people.
