112 duty Constable in Ferozepur hits Rs 7 Crore jackpot in Rakhi Bumper Draw
Ferozepur, August 30, 2026: A routine lottery purchase during a visit to the city turned into a life-changing moment for 28-year-old Punjab Police constable Gurpreet Singh, who is currently deployed on 112 emergency duty, after his ticket won the Rs 7-crore first prize in the Rakhi Bumper Draw.
A resident of Malwal Kadiam village in Ferozepur district, Gurpreet Singh joined the Punjab Police as a constable in 2022. He is presently assigned to 112 emergency services, responding to calls from people seeking police assistance.
Gurpreet had purchased the lottery ticket casually during a routine visit to the city for some personal work, little knowing that the ticket would fetch him the bumper first prize.
The news sparked celebrations at his residence in the village, where relatives, friends and villagers gathered to congratulate the young constable on his extraordinary fortune.
Gurpreet belongs to a modest family. His father, Darshan Singh, served as a train guard with the Railways and retired in 2019. Gurpreet is one of four siblings and has two married sisters and a brother.
Interestingly, Gurpreet learnt about his life-changing win while performing sewa at Gurdwara Bajidpur Sahib on Sunday morning.
“It is nothing short of a dream come true. I had purchased the lottery ticket routinely when I had gone to the city. I never imagined that this ticket would bring me a Rs 7-crore windfall,” Gurpreet said.
The remarkable win has also brought celebrations to the lottery outlet that sold the lucky ticket. Trilok Singh, owner of N K Agency at Udham Singh Chowk, and his team have been celebrating ever since they learnt that a ticket sold by their agency had won the bumper prize.
“This is the first time that someone from this border town has won such a huge lottery prize,” said Trilok Singh.
What began as an ordinary visit to the city and a routine lottery purchase has now transformed the life of a young policeman whose daily duty is to answer emergency calls on 112.
