Himachal Pradesh deploys 194 medical officers to Govt hospitals
118 Specialist Doctors Posted, 76 Medical Officers Appointed as One-Year Trainees

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh), September 14, 2026: The Himachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Department has issued orders for the deployment and appointment of 194 medical officers in government health institutions across the state, aimed at strengthening the availability of doctors, including in remote areas.
Of the total, 118 doctors who have completed postgraduate courses have been posted as specialist medical officers, while 76 medical officers have been appointed as on-the-job trainees for one year.
The 118 specialist doctors include those who completed their postgraduate studies at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla; Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College, Tanda; Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur; and Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Nerchowk.
Some of these doctors were already working as senior residents. Following completion of their postgraduate degrees, they have now been posted as specialist medical officers at different hospitals and health institutions.
The specialists include doctors from departments such as anaesthesia, medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, paediatrics, ENT, pathology, radiology, microbiology and psychiatry.
The doctors have been posted across districts including Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Una, Kullu and Lahaul-Spiti. The deployment is expected to strengthen specialist healthcare services at district-level and remote health institutions.
Meanwhile, 76 medical officers have been appointed as on-the-job trainees for one year, with a monthly honorarium of ₹60,000. The government had increased the honorarium for on-the-job trainee medical officers to ₹60,000 in August.
The trainee medical officers have been assigned to health institutions in several parts of the state, including Nahan, Karsog, Amb, Bharmour, Nalagarh, Dharamshala, Hamirpur, Kangra, Mandi, Solan, Sirmaur, Una, Kullu, Shimla and Chamba. Some have also been given the responsibility of serving as District Programme Officers.
The Health Department has directed all the appointed and posted doctors to join their respective places of posting immediately and submit joining reports through the prescribed channels.
The deployment is expected to improve the availability of doctors and specialist services in government hospitals and reduce the need for patients in remote areas to travel to larger medical centres for treatment.
