65-yr-old Grandmother, 14-yr-old grandson shine at Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan
Gurbaksh Kaur runs 200m, grandson Jobanpreet takes part in 60m race in Bholath

Bholath (Punjab), September 14, 2026: A 65-year-old grandmother and her 14-year-old grandson stole the spotlight at the block-level Khedan Watan Punjab Diyan event in Bholath on Monday.
Gurbaksh Kaur competed in the 200-metre race, while her grandson Jobanpreet, a resident of Salamatpur, participated in the 60-metre race at Government High School, Khassan.
Gurbaksh Kaur said she used to run during her school days and had once aspired to become a police officer. She said participating in the event alongside her grandson was a joyful experience and showed that age is no barrier to sports and fitness.
She thanked the Punjab Government for organising the sporting event and said it encouraged people of all age groups to remain active and participate in sports.
Halqa In-charge Advocate Harsimran Singh Ghumman, who inaugurated the block-level games, said participants from Under-14 to above 70 years were taking part in the event.
District Sports Officer Kulwinder Singh said competitions in 38 sports, Tennis Ball Cricket, one exhibition sport and four para-sports were being held at block, district and state levels. Winners will receive over ₹12 crore in prize money along with gradation certificates.
