Chandigarh, October 17, 2026:
Chandigarh, October 17, 2026: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned Nitin Gohal, Jitin Gohal and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Bir Devinder Singh to appear for questioning on Sunday in connection with the alleged corruption case linked to the Punjab Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s Officer on Special Duty (OSD), Rajbir Singh Ghuman, has been summoned to join the investigation again on Monday. Ghuman appeared before the CBI on Friday and was questioned for nearly six hours at its Sector 30 office in Chandigarh.
What is the case about?
The CBI registered an FIR against Ghuman and five others following an October 5 order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court directing an investigation into allegations flagged by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Besides Ghuman, the six named accused are Nitin Gohal, Jitin Gohal alias Raja, Romi Raja Mahajan, Bir Devinder Singh and Rajdeep Singh Nagra. The FIR also refers to unidentified public servants and private persons.
The allegations include the exchange of money for government transfers and postings, influence over policy decisions and tenders, and interference in administrative approvals, licensing and land-related matters. The ED had cited WhatsApp chats and other material in support of its allegations.
The CBI conducted searches at multiple locations in Punjab and Chandigarh, including the Chief Minister’s camp office, as part of the investigation.
Supreme Court declines to stay FIR
On October 12, the Supreme Court declined to stay the FIR while directing that no coercive action be taken against the accused at that stage. The court also asked the Punjab government to cooperate with the investigation after the state challenged the High Court’s order.
The investigation is ongoing, and the allegations against the accused have not been established in court.
