Chandigarh, October 21, 2026: Haryana Energy Minister Anil Vij has reiterated his opposition to power distribution privatisation, saying the state government would challenge the Haryana Electricity Regulatory Commission’s decision allowing a private company to distribute electricity in Gurugram and Nuh.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Vij said the Energy Department had formally opposed the move before the regulator and that its objections were available in writing.
“The commission has given its decision, and we will appeal against it. We will fight the matter to the very end,” Vij said.
He also said he had called representatives of electricity employees for a meeting at his office at 3 pm to discuss their concerns over the proposed arrangement. According to the minister, he had held discussions with employees earlier as well and remained open to a better solution.
“If there is a better solution, it should be suggested, and we will accept it,” he said.
Vij responds to opposition’s questions on voter revision
The minister also responded to opposition demands that the BJP disclose the number of alleged infiltrators identified during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Vij said the Election Commission of India, rather than the BJP, was responsible for preparing and revising voter lists. “The responsibility of ensuring that one person has one vote rests with the Election Commission, and it is performing its duty,” he said.
He argued that electoral rolls needed to be updated to account for deaths, marriages, transfers and other changes in voters’ circumstances. He also said political parties had an opportunity to inform people about the revision process and help them verify their entries.
Vij questioned the opposition’s criticism of the exercise, saying voter lists required periodic corrections to reflect changes in the population.
The minister’s remarks came amid the ongoing debate over electricity distribution arrangements in Haryana and the revision of electoral rolls.
