A bridegroom’s honour for slain gangster Vicky Gounder before cremation
Sarawan Bodla (Sri Muktsar Sahib), January 28, 2018: Slain gangster Vicky Gounder’s body was prepared for the cremation like a bridegroom as it was taken for the last rites at his native village Sarawan Bodla on Sunday.
The most wanted gangster Harjinder Singh Bhullar popularly known as Vicky Gounder (29) was killed along with two aides in an encounter with the Punjab police on January 26 in area under jurisdiction of the police station Hindu Mal Kot in neighbouring state of Rajasthan.
The sisters of the unmarried gangster adorned the head of the body by tying a sehra on it as is traditionally done in the Punjabi culture by the sister/s of a bridegroom as he leaves for the bride’s place for marriage ceremony.
Befitting a hero's cremation, a large number of people including close kin, friends and area residents turned up to bid a tearful adieu to the A category gangster who had become a major for the state police especially for the last 16 months since his sensational escape from the high security Nabha jail in Patiala district along with others.
Expecting a large turnout, the police had made elaborate security arrangements to prevent any unsavoury incident at the cremation ground and area surrounding the village. The police checkpoints were put up and on all the roads leading to the village.
The police were believed to be on the alert because Shera Khuban gang had issued a threat on social media to avenge killings of Gounder and his aide Prema Lahoria. The Facebook page of this gang had also posted appeal to people to attend the cremation in a large number.
