SBSSU staff pen-down strike enters 15th day
Ferozepur, March 28, 2024: The pen-down strike by teaching and non-teaching staff of Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University entered its 15th day today. The staff has been protesting for non-payment of wages for the last 6 months. In the event of a pen-down strike, the study of students has been affected badly and there is no word from the government on this account so far.
Earlier, a grant of Rs.30 crore was announced but later on, it was not honoured and the old grant of Rs.15 crore was released which is not sufficient to run the affairs of the University.
Newly joined Vice Chancellor, Dr Sushil Mittal had promised to solve the issue within a fortnight and once the strike and dharna was lifted. However, having no action on the part of the government, the staff has again gone on a pen-down strike which entered the 15th day today.
In such a situation, the future of the students is at stake, said Dr.Kulbhushan Agnihotri, President of ECTA, adding that our protest would continue until such time the wages are released.
He said, we have written and approached the chief minister and higher education minister's office on multiple occasions but there is no solution to their issues. It is very unfortunate that teachers who are said to be Guru are without wages. It has become very difficult for the staff to run the household affairs without wages for six months. We appeal to the government to at least arrange the release of wages regularly to the staff.
