Vet Varsity conducts session on drug addiction, awareness and prevention

Ludhiana (Punjab), March 18, 2025: The NSS wing of Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in association with Red Ribbon Club and Punjab Police organized a session on initiatives relating to drug addiction, awareness and prevention.
More than 200 students from different colleges of the university attended this session. Dr. Nidhi Sharma, Assistant Director (Publication) and NSS Programme Coordinator of the university, moderated the session and informed the audience that a poster making competition on drug abuse was also held to spread awareness among the youth.
Gurdev Singh, ACP (West) delivered a motivational talk on the ongoing campaign ‘Yudh Nashyaan Virudh’.He alarmed young students about the ill effects of the intoxicants and motivated them to build a healthier society.
Balwant Singh Bhikhi, a resource person and a retired police official from Mansa deliberated on the topic and activities related to drug awareness. He enlightened the audience about the stigma, discrimination and misconceptions attached to substance abuse.
Hardyal Singh, Sub-Inspector, Sanjh Kendra, Ludhiana, impressed the students to focus on a bright future free from any negative influence of drugs.Samrta Kaur from Bandhu Helping Hands Foundation said that youth must commit to noble deeds that reduce the negative effects on health.
Dr. Sarvpreet Singh Ghuman, Director Students’ Welfare emphasized on the message from Punjab Raj Bhavan to address the issue of drug abuse.
He said that the addiction can be combated with another positive passion only. He urged the youth to fight drug addiction by adopting anything they are passionate about like good health, music, sports etc.
Dr. Narender Kumar Chandla and Dr. Vishal Sharma, NSS Programme Officers of the university informed that an awareness rally will also be taken to sensitise youth on drug abuse.
