New Delhi, October 8, 2025: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has released new guidelines directing all higher education institutions (HEIs) in India to implement a Public Self-Disclosure system aimed at enhancing transparency, accountability, and accessibility of institutional information.
According to an official document generated by the UGC on October 6, 2025, the initiative—formally titled “Guidelines on Public Self-Disclosure by Higher Education Institutions”—requires universities and colleges to publicly disclose key information related to their governance, academics, finances, and infrastructure through their official websites.
The framework mandates institutions to regularly update data on accreditation status, faculty strength, student enrollment, fee structures, financial audits, research output, and other essential details that reflect institutional performance.
UGC officials stated that the move aligns with the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, promoting informed decision-making among students and parents while ensuring institutional integrity and good governance.
The guidelines are accessible on the UGC’s official website via two documents:
UGC has urged all higher education institutions to comply with these disclosure norms promptly to foster greater trust and transparency in India’s higher education ecosystem.
