Chandigarh, February 18, 2026: In a strong display of its commitment to raising classroom standards, the Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has taken swift action following a surprise inspection by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains at Government Primary School in Machhiwara.
During the visit, the Education Minister identified serious lapses in school management and found students struggling to answer basic academic questions.
Taking immediate cognisance of the shortcomings, the Punjab School Education Department issued show-cause notices to six teachers, including the Block Resource Coordinator (BRC), the Head Teacher, an Associate Teacher, three Elementary Trained Teachers (ETT) and an IEAT Teacher.
The action underscores the state government’s continued focus on improving learning outcomes under its ongoing “Sikhya Kranti” reforms. Reiterating a zero-tolerance policy towards negligence, Harjot Singh Bains emphasised that ensuring accountability at every level remains crucial to delivering quality education.
Expressing strong displeasure over the lapses, the Education Minister stated, “Not an iota of negligence will be tolerated. Children’s future is being shaped in the classrooms. Education is paramount for the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government and strict action will be taken against any dereliction of duty.”
Notably, Harjot Singh Bains has been conducting surprise inspections across government schools in Punjab to review academic standards, student attendance, mid-day meals and infrastructure. These visits form part of the government’s broader push to strengthen the public education system and keep students’ learning at the forefront of governance priorities.
Sharing a clip from the inspection on social media platform X, the Minister said, “Conducted a surprise visit to Government Schools in Machhiwara Sahib and reviewed academic standards and overall functioning. Nothing is more important to us than our children’s education. Any teacher found negligent or derelict in duty will face strict action. Show cause notices have been issued to all the teachers of the Primary School today. No compromise will be tolerated when it comes to students’ learning.”
