From Classroom to Field: DSCW Zoology students explore sustainable practices at KVK
Ferozepur, February 17, 2026: The Postgraduate Department of Zoology of Dev Samaj College for Women (DSCW), in collaboration with the Eco Club, organised an educational tour to Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Ferozepur, under the DST CURIE Grant.
The tour aimed to promote experiential learning and awareness about sustainable environmental practices through a series of informative and interactive sessions led by subject experts.
The first session, titled “Mushroom Magic: Sustainable Livelihood Skills for Eco-Learners,” was delivered by Dr Bhallan Singh Sekhon, who educated students about the scientific cultivation of mushrooms and highlighted its vast employment and entrepreneurship potential.
The second session, “Earthworms at Work: The Art of Natural Composting,” was conducted by Dr Gurmel Singh. He demonstrated the process of vermicomposting and explained the crucial role of earthworms in enhancing soil fertility and sustainable agriculture.
This was followed by a Nature Walk and Biodiversity Mapping Activity guided by Dr Simranjit Kaur. During this activity, students identified local flora and fauna and gained hands-on knowledge about biodiversity conservation and ecological balance.
The programme was coordinated by Dr Mokshi, Head of the Postgraduate Department of Zoology and Nodal Officer of the Eco Club, along with Dr Ramneek Kaur, Assistant Professor and Nodal Officer, Eco Club. Principal Dr Sangeeta congratulated the Zoology Department, Eco Club nodal officers, and faculty members for the successful organisation. of the educational tour.
The visit proved to be a valuable practical learning experience for students, deepening their understanding of sustainable agriculture and biodiversity conservation while strengthening their sense of environmental responsibility.
