Chandigarh, April 13, 2025: Punjabi actor and singer Gippy Grewal has issued a strong appeal amid growing protests against his latest film Akaal, which is currently running in cinemas across Punjab. The film has drawn opposition from certain Nihang groups who have raised objections post-release.
Responding to the backlash, Grewal said: “Please don’t protest without watching the film. If there is anything objectionable, point it out and we are open to correcting it.”
He also expressed surprise over the timing of the protest, noting that no objections were raised when the trailer was released.
“The trailer came out, and no one said anything. But once the film hit theatres, some Singhs started opposing it,” he said.Grewal further claimed that many Nihang Singhs who have actually watched the film have appreciated it, rather than condemned it.
“Those who’ve seen Akaal are praising the entire chapter we’ve shown, not opposing it,” he added.
The film has sparked debate across social and religious circles, with discussions centering on its portrayal of Sikh values and historical context.
