Ferozepur Municipal Council launches Cleanliness Fortnight across city
10 individuals challaned for violating Solid Waste Management Rules.
Ferozepur, January 19, 2026: The Municipal Council, Ferozepur, has launched a special cleanliness drive titled ‘Safai Pakhwada’ (Cleanliness Fortnight) to improve civic amenities and sanitation across the city. The drive will continue at various locations from January 19 to February 9, 2026.
Under this special campaign, city residents will receive five major civic facilities, including cleanliness of internal areas, sewerage and drainage maintenance, streetlight repair, removal of encroachments, and clearance of unauthorised hoardings and flex banners. During the drive, challans were issued to 10 individuals for violating Solid Waste Management Rules.
As part of the initiative, accumulated soil, garbage and debris in the concerned areas will be cleared, and public places will be beautified. Any sewerage or rainwater blockage will be rectified immediately, while faulty streetlights will also be repaired on priority. Illegal encroachments and goods placed outside shops by shopkeepers will be removed, and unauthorised hoardings and flex boards will be dismantled.
The drive is being conducted under the guidance of the Secretary, Local Government, Punjab, Manjit Singh Brar, and Director, Local Government Department, Punjab, as per directions issued from Chandigarh, and under the leadership of Additional Deputy Commissioner (J), Dr Nidhi Kumdha Bambah. All Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats of Ferozepur district have been instructed to prepare and implement a special 15-day cleanliness schedule.
Sharing details, Executive Officer, Municipal Council Ferozepur, Mrs Poonam Bhatnagar, along with Superintendent (Sanitation) Sukhpal Singh, stated that the drive officially commenced on January 19. On the first day, cleaning operations were carried out from Delhi Gate to Jeera Gate, where garbage was removed, shopkeepers were warned and challaned for encroachment, and waste was lifted using municipal garbage tippers. Non-functional streetlights were restored, rainwater drains were cleaned, sewerage blockages were cleared, unauthorised flex boards were removed, and excess grass and weeds were cleared.
During the operation, teams also took action against people found polluting public places, issuing challans and imposing fines as per rules.
Appealing to citizens, Executive Officer Mrs Poonam Bhatnagar urged residents to cooperate with the Municipal Council to make the cleanliness drive a success. She expressed gratitude to the people of Ferozepur for their support.
Sanitary Inspector Rustamveer Singh Sodhi, Programme Coordinator Gurdev Singh, Simranjeet Singh, Suman Rai, cleaning mates Amar Bhatti and Rajesh Kumar, along with municipal staff and motivators, were present during the drive.
