Jalandhar, 5 February 2026
In a heart-warming initiative aimed at honoring and supporting the elderly, the administration of Jalandhar district has announced the launch of the ‘Our Senior Citizens, Our Pride’ campaign starting February 16, 2026. This month-long campaign, running until March 16, 2026, is a step toward ensuring the well-being, health, and happiness of senior citizens in the community.
Presiding over a meeting to discuss the campaign’s details, Additional Deputy Commissioner (G) Amaninder Kaur shared that this initiative will focus on providing comprehensive care to the elderly. Special camps will be organized to address various aspects of their well-being, including health check-ups, yoga sessions, psychological support, and awareness programs about government schemes.
Health Camps to Address Common Challenges
One of the key highlights of this campaign is the organization of special health check-up camps. These camps will focus on addressing common health issues faced by senior citizens, such as cataracts, joint pain, and other age-related physical ailments.
In addition to physical health, mental health will also be a priority. Dedicated efforts will be made to maintain and improve the psychological well-being of the elderly through counseling and support services.
The Additional Deputy Commissioner has urged health department officials to ensure that all necessary arrangements for these camps are made in a timely manner. This proactive approach will help in providing much-needed care and support to the elderly population.
Yoga and Cultural Activities for Holistic Well-Being
Recognizing the importance of holistic health, the campaign will also include yoga sessions tailored for senior citizens. Yoga is known to improve flexibility, reduce stress, and promote overall wellness—making it an ideal activity for the elderly.
In addition to yoga, cultural activities will be organized to foster a sense of community and mutual engagement between the elderly and the younger generation. These events aim to create opportunities for connection, sharing experiences, and building intergenerational bonds.
Awareness Programs on Government Schemes
Another crucial aspect of the campaign is raising awareness about various government schemes designed for senior citizens. Many elderly individuals are unaware of the benefits and assistance available to them. Through targeted awareness programs, the administration hopes to bridge this gap and empower senior citizens with knowledge about their rights and entitlements.
A Collective Responsibility
Speaking about the campaign, Additional Deputy Commissioner Amaninder Kaur emphasized that senior citizens are an integral part of our society. She highlighted that it is not just the government’s responsibility but also that of society as a whole to respect, protect, and care for them. This campaign is a reflection of that collective responsibility and aims to create a supportive environment for the elderly.
Collaborative Efforts for Success
To ensure the success of this initiative, the Additional Deputy Commissioner has directed all departments to work in close coordination. Officials from various departments—including Health, Youth Services, Education, and Social Security—attended the meeting to discuss their roles in the campaign. District Social Security Officer Naresh Kumar and Secretary of District Red Cross Society Surjit Lal were also present to lend their support and expertise.
A Step towards a Caring Society
The ‘Our Senior Citizens, Our Pride’ campaign is a commendable effort that underscores the importance of caring for those who have contributed so much to society. By addressing their physical and mental health needs, fostering community connections, and raising awareness about available resources, this initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for senior citizens in Jalandhar.
As February 16 approaches, let us all take inspiration from this campaign and remember our shared responsibility toward our elders. After all, they are not just a part of our past but also a guiding light for our future. Let’s work together to make sure they feel respected, valued, and loved—because they truly are our pride.
