Applications invited for enhanced compensation for 1984 anti-Sikh riots victims
Ferozepur, June 29, 2024: The government has decided to give Rs 5 lakh each to the next of kin of victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, triggered after the assassination of the then prime minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh bodyguards.
The compensation to the families of the anti-Sikh riot victims will be given in addition to what they have so far received from the government and other agencies from time to time.
SDM Dr Charumita Shekhar informed that according to a circular issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, a notice has been issued to provide enhanced relief of Rs 5 lakh to the family members of those killed during the anti-Sikh riots of 1984.
She said that according to the circular of June 16, 2006, of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, the family members/beneficiaries of the persons killed during the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 have received an amount of Rs.3.50 and now the applications are invited for payment of enhanced compensation of Rs.5 lac.
She said that the beneficiaries should approach the office of the Deputy Commissioner from where they received the ex-gratia amount earlier with their necessary documents to get the increased compensation.
