Amritsar (Punjab), May 3, 2026: Kultar Singh Sandhwan, Speaker of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, has been summoned to Sri Akal Takht Sahib by Jathedar Kuldeep Singh Gargaj, triggering sharp reactions in both religious and political circles.
The Jathedar has called Sandhwan to appear on May 8, questioning why the supremacy of the Akal Takht Sahib was allegedly overlooked during the formulation of the new anti-sacrilege law introduced by the Punjab government.
Terming the legislation unacceptable, the Jathedar stated that the law was framed without the consent of the Sikh Panth and ignored established religious traditions.
Meanwhile, AAP leader Bikramjit Singh Pasi defended the law, asserting that the move by the Bhagwant Mann-led government aims to ensure strict punishment for those involved in sacrilege cases and safeguard Sikh interests.
