Centre forms committte to examine MP Amritpal's leave plea

Chandigarh, February 25, 2025: The Central government has informed the Punjab and Haryana High Court that a 15-member committee, led by Biplab Kumar Deb, has been formed by the Lok Sabha Speaker to review the leave applications of all absent Members of Parliament, including Amritpal Singh.
During the resumed hearing of Amritpal’s petition, Additional Solicitor General Satya Pal Jain, along with advocate Dheeraj Jain, informed a Bench comprising Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sumeet Goel that the committee, established on Monday, would examine the cases of all such MPs.
Meanwhile, Amritpal’s counsel, R S Bains, was unable to appear in court and requested additional time for arguments. Accepting the Centre’s statement on record, the High Court adjourned the matter to next week.
