Installation of City Surveillance & Traffic Management System is underway in Mohali city to streamline traffic chaos and curb violations along with maintaining law and order, said MLA Kulwant Singh, here, on Friday.
Divulging the details, MLA SAS Nagar, Kulwant Singh said that in the first phase, 20 Junctions of the city would be covered with 400 cameras of different resolutions in total and the rest of the city to be covered on the results based on it. Expressing gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann who has given assurance to start the work soon during the Budget Session, MLA Kulwant Singh reiterated that he would always remain committed to the welfare of SAS Nagar residents. He said the project would be completed for Rs 17.70 Crore within four months. He also expressed thanks to Municipal Corporation Mohali and Greater Mohali Area Development Corporation for clearing the hitches causing the delay in the project.
Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Aashika Jain who remained instrumental in making the project functional by effecting coordination between MC and GMADA to grant all the permissions, said that the integrated surveillance system will thus contribute to creating a safer and more secure environment for all citizens, enhancing the overall quality of life in Mohali. She said that the District administration to ensure its timely completion by supporting and monitoring mechanisms as additional assistance to the execution agency Punjab Police Housing Corporation.
Ranjodh Singh, Chief Engineer, Punjab Police Housing Corporation while adding more details said that under the guidance of the MD of the Corporation, Sharad Satya Chauhan, this project includes the installation of 216 ANPR Cameras, 63 RLVD Cameras, 104 Bullet Cameras, and 22 PTZ Cameras at 18 different junctions in SAS Nagar City. Additionally, a Speed Violation Detection system will be installed at two locations on Airport Road. The E-Challan platform will integrate with NIC-based databases such as Vaahan and Saarthi. The Command & Control Centre for this system is being established on the top floor of the Police Station Sohana building in Sector 79, SAS Nagar. The project is scheduled for completion by 30.09.2024.
Managing Director of Punjab Police Housing Corporation, Sharad Satya Chauhan said that once the system goes live, it will begin generating E-challans for various traffic violations, including red light jumping, overspeeding and triple riding besides riding without a helmet. This automated enforcement will ensure that traffic laws are consistently and impartially upheld. By targeting these common yet dangerous violations, the system aims to create a deterrent effect, encouraging drivers to adhere to traffic rules. This is expected to lead to a significant reduction in accident-related casualties, thereby saving many precious lives by increasing road safety.
SSP Dr Sandeep Garg said that the comprehensive surveillance provided by the system will enhance the ability of law enforcement to monitor public spaces and respond quickly to criminal activities. High-resolution cameras strategically placed at critical junctions will capture real-time footage, aiding in the prompt identification and apprehension of offenders. This proactive approach to crime prevention will not only help reduce the incidence of criminal activities but also foster a sense of security among residents. The integrated surveillance system will thus contribute to creating a safer and more secure environment for all citizens, enhancing the overall quality of life in SAS Nagar (Mohali) City, he further added.
