FIR lodged after IED found near Rayya police post

Amritsar (Punjab), February 21, 2026: An FIR has been registered against unidentified persons after an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was recovered near the Rayya police post in Amritsar district.
According to officials, a suspicious unattended bag was spotted near the police post on Friday evening.
Upon inspection, police suspected the presence of explosive material and immediately sealed off the area, restricting public movement as a precautionary measure.
A Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team was called to the spot. The experts examined the bag and safely defused the IED following standard security protocols.
Authorities stated that a major mishap was averted due to the timely action of the police.
An FIR (No. 45) has been registered at Rayya Police Station under Sections 3, 4 and 5 of the Explosive Substances Act. Police are scanning CCTV footage from the surrounding area to identify those responsible.
