Ferozepur Police achieve breakthrough under ‘Operation Gangster War’; 3 held with Illegal Arms, heroin
Ferozepur, March 12, 2026: The district police have achieved a major success under the ongoing “Operation Gangster War” campaign aimed at curbing anti-social and criminal activities. Acting on specific intelligence, police teams arrested three persons involved in illegal arms trafficking and recovered four illegal weapons, four magazines and seven live cartridges, along with heroin.
Senior Superintendent of Police Bhupinder Singh Sidhu said that, under the directions of the Punjab Police and the Government of Punjab, special teams have been formed across the district to crack down on criminals as part of the campaign.
A CIA staff team led by Zira successfully conducted patrols and checks on March 10 near the main chowk bus stand in Zira. Acting on a tip-off, police arrested Gurpreet Singh alias Gumma (25) and Khark Singh alias Deepak Kumar alias Deepu (28) from Dana Mandi, Zira. Police recovered two .32 bore country-made pistols, two magazines and two live cartridges from their possession. A case under the Arms Act, 1959, has been registered at the City Police Station, Zira.
In another operation, another CIA team apprehended Sandeep alias Billa (32) of village Khalchiya Jadid near Dana Mandi, Ferozeshah, while he attempted to flee on seeing the police party. During the search, police recovered 105 grams of heroin, two illegal pistols (.30 bore and .32 bore), two magazines, and five live cartridges from a bag carried by the accused. Police also seized a motorcycle and an iPhone 17 Pro from him.
A case has been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) and the Arms Act of India at Ghall Khurd police station. Investigation into the cases is ongoing.
The accused, Gurpreet Singh alias Gumma, is involved in 5 criminal cases; Kharan Singh alias Deepak Kumar, in 3; and Sandeep alias Billa, in 6, under the NDPS and Arms Acts.
Police officials said the arrested persons have a long criminal history, including cases related to drugs, illegal arms, theft and conspiracy. Further investigation is underway to identify their links and possible involvement in other crimes.
