Babushahi Bureau
New Delhi, July 2, 2024: In a significant milestone for the Punjabis-speaking community, Google has now integrated support for the Shahmukhi script in its Google Translate tool. For over 20 years, our Gurmukhi-Shahmukhi transliteration tool has been the sole online resource for converting text to Shahmukhi.
The addition of Shahmukhi to Google Translate marks a major advancement, making this script more accessible to a broader audience. This development will greatly benefit all Punjabis, facilitating easier communication, cultural exchange, and preservation of our rich linguistic heritage.
With Google Translate now supporting Shahmukhi, we can expect enhanced connectivity and understanding among Punjabi speakers worldwide, further enriching the cultural fabric of our community.
In its largest expansion so far, Google updated its Translate service by introducing 110 new languages to eliminate language barriers, improve understanding, and help people connect.
