Phones keep ringing in Jail; 3 prisoners, one unknown booked after 8-mobile seized
Ferozepur, November 22, 2025: Intensified search operations conducted at the Central Jail from November 16 to 20 have led to the booking of three prisoners and an unidentified person following the recovery of banned items, including 8 mobile phones, one battery, four zarda sachets, and one dongle.
A case has been registered against Rajvir Singh alias Raju, Sukhjinder Pal Singh alias Shania, Jaskaran Singh alias Baggi, and an unidentified person on the complaint of the Assistant Superintendent of Central Jail under Sections 52-A and 42 of the Prisons Act. Sharma Singh has been entrusted with the investigation.
The unidentified person was booked after a mobile phone, battery (without SIM), and dongle were found in a throw-in, treated as unclaimed. With the latest recovery, the total number of mobile phones seized from the jail this year has reached 590.
Despite three layers of gates, frisking, and scanners, contraband continues to find its way inside. Sources cite sloppy checking at entry points and alleged silent complicity during visitor hours. While surprise raids have significantly contributed to rising seizures, follow-up investigations reportedly remain limited, as moving prisoners for questioning is often considered a high-security risk.
Experts say that unless full-body scanners, round-the-clock jammers, and stringent vetting of prison staff become the norm, the persistent sound of ringing phones inside jail will continue to expose the vulnerabilities of a system meant to stay sealed from the outside world.
