Chandigarh, April 20, 2025: The Punjab Government has announced a public holiday on Tuesday, April 29, in observance of Parshuram Jayanti, marking the birth anniversary of Lord Parshuram Ji, the sixth incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
As per the official notification, all educational institutions, government offices, and commercial establishments across the state will remain closed on this day. April 29 has also been included in the state's official list of public holidays for 2025.
Lord Parshuram, the son of Maharishi Jamadagni and Mata Renuka, is revered as one of the ten incarnations of Lord Vishnu and is considered among the eight immortals (Chiranjeevi) believed to still be present on Earth.
His appearance is traditionally celebrated on the Tritiya of Shukla Paksha in the month of Vaishakh, which this year coincides with May 10.
However, in Punjab, the holiday will be observed on April 29, aligning with local traditions and the Pradosh Kaal, the period believed to mark his divine appearance.
