Amritsar (Punjab), August 28, 2026: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday extended greetings to Punjabis on the occasion of Rakhar Punya and announced that ₹181.50 crore has been transferred as ‘shagun’ to the bank accounts of 5.30 lakh women under the state government’s Satikar Yojana.
In a post on social media, Mann said the payment was made on Raksha Bandhan as part of the government’s commitment to women. He said that so far, a total of 70.92 lakh mothers and sisters had benefited from the scheme.
Mann also highlighted several achievements of his government, claiming that 90% of households in Punjab have zero electricity bills, canal water is reaching agricultural fields, and 70,840 young people have secured government jobs.

He further claimed that 882 students from government schools have cleared the NEET examination, describing the figures as evidence that Punjab is once again moving towards development and emerging as a leading state.
Mann was speaking from Baba Bakala Sahib during the state-level Rakhar Punya celebrations in Amritsar.
