SBSSU celebrates 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour
Ferozepur, August 15, 2026: Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, Ferozepur, celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm, with faculty members, officers, staff and students participating in large numbers.
The celebrations began with Vice Chancellor Dr. Suresh Kumar Sharma paying floral tribute at the Shaheedi Memorial and unfurling the National Flag. The National Anthem was followed by a salute by NCC cadets and security guards. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sharma paid tribute to freedom fighters and urged the youth to draw inspiration from their sacrifices and contribute to the nation’s progress.
He said the university, established in the name of Shaheed Bhagat Singh, was committed to excellence in education, research, skill development and innovation. Registrar Dr. Rajiv Arora also addressed the gathering and urged students to remain conscious of their responsibilities towards the nation.
Dean Academics Dr. Rajiv Garg highlighted the university’s academic programmes and said new employment-oriented courses were being planned.
During Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s visit to Ferozepur, Dr. Sharma and Dr. Arora met him and submitted a memorandum seeking a guest house, auditorium and a scholarship in the name of Shaheed-e-Azam Bhagat Singh. The Chief Minister reportedly assured them of early action on the demands.
Students, faculty and staff children presented patriotic poems, speeches, songs and dances. Faculty and staff members for outstanding performance were also honoured.
The programme concluded with distribution of sweets among faculty, staff and students.
