The mortal remains of Subedar Ratan Singh, an Indian Army veteran who fought in the 1971 India-Pakistan War, were consigned to flames in his ancestral village Tibba in Kapurthala on Friday. He was 92.
Rattan Singh who inspired inspired Bollywood blockbuster 'Border', passed away on Wednesday.
He was immortalised on the silver screen by Puneet Issar in the 1997 film Border.
During the war in 1971, just 80 Indian soldiers guarding Longawala border post in Rajasthan had shown extreme valour and successfully repulsed the attack by a Pakistani army battalion of 45 tanks and more than two thousand soldiers.
