Surge in small Chinese drone drug smuggling, BSF seizes 4th drone with heroin
Ferozepur, June 26, 2024: The security agencies in India pose a serious challenge with an unprecedented drone infiltrating threat at the border with Pakistan, loaded with heroin and weapons as drones are being used for smuggling of arms and narcotics from across the border in Punjab. During the last six days, 4th drone along with a packet containing heroin was seized during the search operation by the Border Security Force (BSF) near the Ferozepur International Border.
The illegal drug trade between Pakistan and India has escalated recently, with an alarming rise in the use of drones as a preferred mode of trafficking.
On Wednesday, based on information shared by the BSF intelligence wing about the presence of a drone along with narcotics near the border area of district Ferozepur, the BSF troops promptly conducted a search operation in the suspected area.
During the search operation, at around 10:30 am, the troops successfully recovered one drone along with one packet of suspected heroin (Gross weight- 510 Grams). The narcotics were wrapped in yellow adhesive tape and attached to the drone by an improvised nylon loop. This recovery occurred in a maize field adjacent to Barreke village in Ferozepur District. The recovered drone has been identified as a China-made DJI Mavic 3 Classic.
Reliable information and prompt action by the BSF troops resulted in this significant recovery of a narco-drone launched from across the border. It was 4th drone during the last six days loaded with heroin and, a pistol on Ferozepur International Border.
According to the information, the general public in border areas has been sensitised and made aware of these drone activities and their likely security implications. They are encouraged to inform about any such activities in the rear areas to the BSF as well as the local police.
