Rising temperature threatens wheat crop, Agri Deptt issues advisory for farmers
Ferozepur, February 28, 2023: In view of the rising temperature, the Department of Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare, Punjab has issued advisory to the farmers to be vigilant against the attack of the pests on the wheat crop,
Chief Agriculture Officer Ferozepur Dr. Tejpal Singh said, this rise in temperature could end up being dangerous for the standing wheat crop and is a matter of concern for farmers.
Dr Tejpal said that high temperature is not suitable for wheat crop and it can also have a negative effect on wheat yield. He said that to save the crop from the adverse effect of rising temperature, light water should be applied to the wheat, but care should be taken that the crop should not be watered during strong winds.
He said that high temperature is favorable for the attack of the pest, so the farmers should constantly monitor their fields so that the crop can be protected from the disease by spraying it within the specified time.
He further said that if there are 5 infections per leaf, then for prevention, farmers should spray 2 liters of home-made neem solution twice at weekly intervals or one spray of 20 grams Actara/Taya 25 WG (Thiamethoxam) dissolved in 80-100 liters of water as per acre basis. Apart from this, potassium nitrate spray can also be done in the evening.
CAO said that the first attack of the pest is on the outer parts of the field, so spraying should be done only on such attacked parts and the recommended amount of pesticides should be used.
