Delhi Akali Chief urges release of MP-designate Amritpal Singh

New Delhi, July 1, 2024 - The Shiromani Akali Dal’s Delhi Unit has called for the release of Amritpal Singh, the newly elected Member of Parliament from Punjab, who is currently detained in an Assam jail.Paramjit Singh Sarna highlighted the need for Amritpal Singh’s release.
Sarna emphasised that, despite political differences with him, he deserves to be freed pending trial to serve his Khadoor Sahib constituency, which elected him with an overwhelming majority.
Sarna also expressed concern over the extension of Bhai Amritpal Singh’s detention under the National Security Act for another year, noting the irony of this decision following his recent electoral victory.
The Delhi Akali chief urged the central government to consider the request favourably in the spirit of democracy and the electoral process.The Shiromani Akali Dal hopes that this appeal will receive positive attention, Sarna said.
