Language Dept holds Kavi Darbar dedicated to Padamshri Surjit Patar
Ferozepur July 3, 2024: Language Department, Punjab organised ‘Kavi Darbar’ of young poets on the theme “Jadon Tak Lafaz Jeonde Ne…” dedicated to the warm memory of Padamshri Surjit Patar at Shaheed Bhagat Singh State University, as per the instructions of Minister of Higher Education and Languages, Harjot Singh Bains, under the patronage of Director, Language Department Jasant Singh Zafar, with the support of Yuva Sahitya Manch and Red Ribbon Club, SBS University. Jaswant Singh Baraich, District Development and Panchayat Officer was the chief guest at the event.
The function started after the tune of the Language Department. In this event, young poets from all over Punjab presented their poems and made the event a success.
Praising the effort of the District Language Officer, the Chief Guest said that he is feeling proud and comforted by listening to the poetry of young poets today that the next generation still has sensibility. He congratulated the young poets and said that while they got an opportunity to present a poem in the memory of a great literary figure, it is also a matter of pride that they presented their poetry today at Ferozepur - the land of martyrs.
District Language Officer Dr Jagdeep Sandhu welcomed the guests by introducing them and thanked the poets who came from all over Punjab and said that it is a matter of pride for us that we have an opportunity to listen to the words of the next generation of budding pens of Punjab.
Talking about Padma Shri Surjit Patar, he said that while his poetry is the pride of Punjab, his personality is also of the same values. His departure is not only a loss for the literary world, but it is a big void for Punjab and Punjabi.
He especially thanked the office bearers of Yuva Sahitya Manch and Red Ribbon Club for making the event a success.
Addressing his presidential speech, poet Harmeet Vidyarthi said that Surjit Patar gave us the knowledge to listen and read good literature through the pen.
Special guest Prof Kuldeep Singh proudly said after hearing the standard works of Kavi Darbar that now the future of poetry is golden. Gurpreet Singh Chhabra, another special guest, praised the poetry of young poets and also shared his works with the audience.
On this occasion, eminent singer Balkar Gill brought Surjeet Patarji's composition 'Kujh Kiha To Hanera Jarega Kaish' to the peak by presenting it in rhythm.
