Former MLA, locals protest sewerage crisis in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, August 28, 2024: Residents of Ferozepur are facing a worsening sewerage crisis, exacerbated by recent heavy rains. Contaminated water is being supplied through taps, forcing people to consume sewage-laced water. Despite multiple complaints lodged with the Sewerage Board, no action has been taken to resolve the issue. In response, frustrated locals, joined by a group of Municipal Councillors (MCs), staged a protest outside the Sewerage Board office, chanting slogans against the board.
Former MLA Parminder Singh Pinki, who took part in the protest, condemned both the Sewerage Board and the current MLA for their inaction. He warned that the contaminated water posed a serious health risk and accused the authorities of diverting essential resources, such as vehicles, to other districts instead of addressing the crisis in Ferozepur. Pinki also cautioned that if the problem is not promptly resolved, a large-scale protest could result in a city-wide shutdown.
The protest saw participation from notable figures, including Gulshan Kumar, SDO of the Sewerage Board, as well as Municipal Councillors Raju, Yakub Bhatti, and Maunti Kumar, all of whom demanded urgent action to address the crisis.
