Punjab has taken prudent step in energy storage: PSPCL CMD

Chandigarh, September 14, 2024: PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized the regional energy transition & sustainability (RETS) conclave during Ins/Out.
On this occasion, Baldev singh Sran chairman cum managing director PSPCL government of Punjab said that temperature is increasing day by day due to global warming and the Punjab is also suffering with the heatwaves because of modernization. Punjab is also adopting many methods like solar, wind, hydro, and other new energy sources to achieve carbon neutrality.
"In Patiala 7 solar trees are installed which are reducing 41 tons of carbon dioxide emissions equal to planting 1,515 trees. Energy consumption breakdown in Punjab is 26-28% in the domestic sector, 32-33% in the industrial sector and 7% in the commercial sector," said Baldev Singh Sran.
"Punjab has taken an ambitious target of establishing 3000 megawatt of energy storage, with 500 megawatt already floated by SECI. This project aims to provide round-the-clock energy through a mix of solar, wind, and battery storage. Approximately one acre of land is required to establish 100 megawatt-hours of battery storage," he added.
On this occasion, R S Sachdeva Chair, Punjab State Chapter, PHDCCI welcomed the guests and said that this event is being organized with the aim that people can adopt the solar energy which can curb out the problems of climate change.
During the program, Parv Arora convener regional power & renewable energy committee PHDCCI said that the India is now increasing the installation of rooftop solar panels. The Indian government's PM Surya Ghar Yojana scheme, launched on February 30, 2024, aims to install solar power for one crore domestic consumers across India by March 31, 2027.
