DC leads efforts to combat stubble burning in Ferozpur District
Ferozepur, November 2, 2024 : On noticing the fire that broke out in the fields of Kadaa Boda and Itan Wali villages, during a visit to various villages in the district, Deputy Commissioner Deepashikha Sharma took swift action, to extinguish a stubble fire. Accompanied by teams from the fire brigade, civil administration, and police, she spent the day on the field addressing the situation. DC immediately stopped her vehicle and entered the field to assist in extinguishing the flames.

Speaking to the media, she stated that the entire administration, including civil and police departments, is actively visiting villages to engage with farmers and encourage them to refrain from burning stubble.
DC explained that due to recent incidents of stubble burning in the district, she has been personally touring different villages to motivate farmers to adopt better management practices. She noted that on Diwali, civil and police teams remained in the field to deter any tendencies to ignite stubble or crop residue.
This year, incidents of stubble burning have decreased compared to previous years. So far, 296 cases of stubble burning have been registered, and strict action is being taken against officials and employees who fail to address this issue effectively. Four individuals have already been suspended in Ferozepur district for negligence.
Additionally, 172 farmers have been marked with red entries in their records for stubble burning. The district administration is committed to supporting farmers; however, if stubble burning continues, actions will be taken in accordance with the directives of Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal.
Deputy Commissioner Sharma appealed to farmers to maintain a clean environment, preserve soil fertility, and act in the best interest of humanity by refraining from burning stubble. She urged farmers facing difficulties to contact the local agriculture department office, block officer, or the SDM office, or call the helpline at 1800-180-1852 for assistance.
