Special Voter Registration Camps to ensure accurate voter lists, engage youths in Guruharsahai Constituency
Ferozepur, November 6, 2024: In a concerted effort to ensure the accuracy and inclusivity of the voter list, special camps are set to be organized in Assembly Constituency 78, Guruharsahai, under the direction of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Punjab and the Deputy Commissioner cum District Election Officer, Deepshikha Sharma, IAS, and under the guidance of Election Registration Officer (ERO) cum SDM, Madam Divya P, IAS. These camps, aimed at updating the voter list and boosting youth registration, will take place on two weekends: November 9-10 and November 23-24, 2024, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, at designated polling stations across the constituency.
These efforts follow the guidelines issued on October 29, when Punjab's Chief Election Officer directed the preparation of updated voter lists for the upcoming legislative assembly elections. The current voter enrollment stands at 88,032 male voters, 81,317 female voters, and 07 transgender voters, totaling 169,356 voters in the constituency.
Booth Level Officers (BLOs) are tasked with conducting these camps to verify the voter list meticulously, including adding new voters, correcting existing records, and removing outdated entries. A significant focus will be on enrolling young voters, particularly targeting students from schools, colleges, and other institutions, such as visa consultancies and English-speaking institutes, as well as public places to foster an inclusive democratic environment.
In addition, the ERO has directed the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) team to conduct awareness camps in remote areas and frequently visited locations like banks, police stations, tehsil offices, and all schools and colleges within the constituency. This extensive outreach is intended to educate citizens, especially those in remote and high-traffic areas, about the importance of timely voter registration and participation in the electoral process.
The meeting to coordinate these efforts was attended by Tehsildar Rajinder Singh, Naib Tehsildar Jai Amandeep Goyal, Superintendent Kewal Krishan, and SVEEP Coordinator Parvinder Singh Sodhi, who emphasized the importance of accurate voter registration and youth involvement. A follow-up meeting to assess the progress of these voter registration camps is scheduled for November 23, 2024.
To ensure smooth execution and maximum impact, sector supervisors, Tehsildars, Naib Tehsildars, and Block Development and Panchayat Officers (BDPOs) from Guruharsahai and Mamdot will monitor the camp activities, ensuring adherence to Election Commission guidelines and thorough coverage. The ERO has also urged all government offices in the area to support this crucial voter registration drive, emphasizing the need for active involvement to achieve a comprehensive and accurate voter registry.
The final deadline for the submission of completed voter lists across all electoral divisions is set for December 12, marking the culmination of this initiative to improve voter list accuracy and encourage youth participation, strengthening democratic engagement in the constituency ahead of the elections.
